This couple had a mostly shaded front yard and had tried for many years to grow grass. He finally agreed (with my instruction) that growing grass there was an uphill battle and a losing one, at that.
We eradicated the weak grass and used boulderettes to create a modified rockery, which was planted with shade loving shrubs, such as Andromeda and Cherry laurel. Shadier perennials were added and later in the fall, spring flowering bulbs will be added too.
We created an irregular flagstone stepping stone path that started at the street and meandered through the woodsy planting to the rear yard and their new deck.
Now friends can walk through the garden to be entertained in the rear living space.
The pollinators are happy for the new shrubs, perennials and bulbs, as are the clients.
