Creating a Modified Rock Terrace in Malvern

before and after of rock terrace

Our team was so excited to transform this property with a combination of trees, shrubs, and beautiful perennials. This job was more than just for show, though! It was also a way to help prevent erosion around the home as these Malvern homeowners were having problems with runoff from higher neighboring properties.

As you can see in the before images, we started with an empty grass-covered slope. We created a dry stream bed at the top of the slope to divert water away from the house and rear deck. Below are a few plants we used in our design:

Shrubs

Inkberry Holly
Winterthur Viburnum
Saint John’s Wort
Summersweet
Yellow twig Dogwood
Weigela

Perennials

Coneflower
Tickseed
Chrysanthemum
Beardtongue

Tree Varieties

Sweetbay Magnolia
Arizona Cypress

We finished this custom project by using large boulders in the foreground and small rocks throughout to create a modified rock terrace.

The result: a beautiful and useful landscape that preserves their terrace and protects their property.
