This client had an old Victorian house in Wayne with three enormous Japanese Hollies that had been sheared into perfectly round balls for at least the past 50 years. They covered the entire front of the house, totally obscuring the beautiful stonework of the house.
Needless to say, the first thing we did was to pull the Hollies out by the roots and expose the handsome stonework and front porch.
Then we enlarged the bed to create more depth and also created a complementary bed at the front steps and side walkway.
Next we brought in bio-soil and planted site appropriate plants that would enhance and frame the front without obscuring it. Two smaller ornamental trees were planted to complement the design, and then perennials and later bulbs were added for sequential bloom during the entire growing season.
New life for an old Victorian home.
