These clients had lived with their front landscape for too long and decided it was time for a change. Her only request was a Cut Leaf Japanese Maple. We cleared out the existing vegetation (shrubs, Pachysandra, etc.) so we had a ‘clean slate.’
We then brought in rich bio-soil for the old beds and a new one under a large spruce. The area was then planted with shade-tolerant shrubs and perennials. A low shadowbox fence section was custom cut and installed to screen an A/C unit and became a convenient place to hang a hose caddy.
A stepping stone path was created to the hose bib.
Landscape grade rocks were added for textural variation and naturalization.
Now the Japanese Maple has a prominent location amidst the other plant material. The client said that her husband who resists changes said the result was very much to his liking. It’s easy to understand why as now it’s so much more welcoming to come home. Even the neighbors expressed their approval.
